First connection
This can be a phone call or in-person consultation with a therapist to see if Express Yourself Counselling is the right fit. You will have a brief chat with a therapist to share what's been going on for you and the therapist will ask you a few questions to better understand your needs. It's also an opportunity for you to ask about the therapist's experience and approach before deciding to book in a session.

Express Yourself Counselling understands situations can arise in which a client must cancel their appointment. Due to limited appointment availability, EYC requests that a client provides adequate notice of a cancellation.
Cancellations less than 24 hours before the scheduled appointment time will incur a 50% cancellation fee.
Failure to attend an appointment without providing prior notice incurs a 100% cancellation fee.
EYC may agree to waive all or part of a cancellation fee if the client can provide a medical certificate which demonstrates their inability to attend due to ill health, within 48 hours after the missed appointment.
If notice of cancellation is given more than 24 hours before the scheduled appointment time, EYC will refund the payment made at the time of booking.
When booking in for a children's counselling session, the therapist will meet with the parent alone for at least the first session. This allows the parent to discuss in depth with the therapist what has led them to seek therapy for their child without little ears listening. It gives the parents an opportunity to express their concerns and hopes openly so that they can work together with the therapist to develop a plan and treatment goals for the child. After this initial parent-only session, subsequent sessions may involve parents staying in with the child during sessions, parents joining their child at beginning and/or end of sessions, or the child participating in sessions on their own.
The focus of initial sessions with children is to establish rapport and positively engage them in the therapeutic process to gain an understanding of who they are, what challenges they may be facing, and their hopes for a way forward.
When booking in for an initial session the therapist will focus on building rapport with you, gaining information about what has led you to seek therapy, and your hopes for a way forward. The therapist will work collaboratively with you to help you navigate through your experiences, your needs, hopes and dreams towards growth and change.
